Oculus Portable Digital Speaker/Subwoofer

Traditional speaker set-ups for PCs are messy, convoluted, and full of wires. You set up once, and leave it be. But what about for the mobile, tech-savvy and music-loving professional?

The world of electronics is ever-shifting. We are becoming an increasingly mobile people, with the concept of a single room to house all our computer hardware becoming more and more archaic. The Oculus is the home entertainment answer to the laptop- a portable, cool speaker system designed with quality in mind. Containing two periphery speakers that attach to a central subwoofer hub for transport, the Oculus system can move with you, from home or apartment to office or studio and give you rich, immersive sound anywhere you please.
The inspiration for the Oculus came from market research into consumer electronics, and data supporting the idea that more and more, electronics are used for entertainment purposes. Following the video game boom in the early 2000's and the advent of technologies such as Netflix, users want high quality sound to follow their high quality visual technologies. The Oculus' key market is found in young adults- namely High School and College-age individuals with high energy social lives and high mobility.

For this project, I was awarded the Stephen H. Robertson Scholarship in Industrial Design in 2010.
